How to Put Your Blender Models on the Web

A complete guide to getting your 3D models running in a browser so people can interact with them or view them in AR on their phones.

1

Export from Blender

The web uses the .glb format (it's the universal 3D standard for browsers).

  1. Select your object in Blender.
  2. Go to File > Export > glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf).
  3. Crucial Settings:
    • Format: glTF Binary (.glb)
    • Include: Check Selected Objects.
    • Geometry: Check Apply Modifiers.
    • Transform: Ensure +Y Up is checked.
2

Generate Viewer Code

Use modelviewer.dev/editor to get the embed code.

  • Drag your .glb into the editor.
  • Click **"Generate Poster"** (this is the loading image).
  • Download the poster and click **"Copy Snippet"**.
3

Create the Page

<script type="module" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/model-viewer/3.4.0/model-viewer.min.js"></script>
<model-viewer src="my-model.glb" poster="poster.webp" camera-controls ar></model-viewer>

Security Note

Browsers block 3D files from loading directly from your hard drive (CORS). You must upload to a server or use Netlify Drop to test it live.
